People do not choose to be gay, they are born that way. I’m not sure about you, but I don’t think a loving God would ever put someone on this earth just to suffer. In fact, the very survival of our planet depends on our ability to protect and respect the diversity of life

I love you, Mika! I have so many wonderful memories of you growing up. You are like a sister to me.
However, the problem I have with your statement is that according to the bible, homosexuality is a sin. Whether or not they were born that way, I don't know. What I do know is that God didn't create them that way, but because of sin (that man chose) bad things will always happen on Earth. Some people are born with birth defects or other diseases, some people have a propensity towards alcholism, gambling, anger, pediophilia, etc...but God says there is a way to get rid of all those things, through Jesus. This is why He sent His son to die for our sins, so that in our sinful world, we can be set free of the sins that keep us bound.
I have listened to many a born-again Christians' testimonies who were once bound to homosexuality and were delievered from it. They are living proof that you can choose Jesus over your own desires.
I am proud that the USA has taken a stand (so far) that marriage is between one man and one woman. It isn't to punish anyone, but to bless us. If the world only understood how precious God holds the covenent of marriage between husband and wife, it wouldn't be an issue at all.
I fully believe homosexuals should be able to live their lives in peace, pursue their dreams, have successful careers, etc...and America is all for that. Afterall, in the end, each man is only responsible for their own choices to God. He is the final judge, not me, not our country, not the world.
And you are right, love is an amazing gift!
I'm so glad I live in Canada. Last spring my kids and I were having a discussion about the fact that they had never been to a wedding. Well, wouldn't you know it, about a week letter we received an invitation to a wedding! A gay wedding. Two friends in the opera chorus were going to be the first gay couple to be legally married in Edmonton! So, I was driving the kids to school when I said " Hey , guess what? Weve been invited to a wedding! This wedding is going to be a bit different." My kids said " Why?" and I said it was because two boys were getting married. Then they said " And.....?" Like they didn't think that was the different part!! We had a great time at the wedding. We danced with all the nieces and nephews, grandparents, uncles, sisters, brothers, friends and relatives of the groom and the "groom", just like at any other " normal" wedding!
I think that Tyra's response is resonable considering her beliefs and I believe that she should be able to say what she believes. I am, on the other hand, really glad that I too can say what I feel without fear. I believe that the "founding fathers" of both the US and Canada were right to make it a law to seaparate religion and government. There are many citizens that are not Christian. They have a right to government that considers their rights and responsiblities. If the law were to change and we were to allow religion to play a greater role in government then a very large portion of our citizens would be left without representation. There is no way for someone who believes the bible is a document from God to see any other way of thinking. Thank God I am protected by law and live in a country that respects all it citzens not just the "Christian" ones. I have recently been to many countries were government and religion were not separate and have seen with my own eyes how Christians (and others) were treated. I was sadened when I met a Vietnamese Christian who had had to practice her religion in secrecy for many years. It is my opinion that we need to protect all our citizens rights to their beliefs.
Hey Mika. Thank goodness that there are many open-minded, non-judgemental, loving individuals in our world and hopefully, eventually, this way of thinking will prevail.
I too am a firm believer in separation of church and state. I certainly don't want a public school teacher teaching my children about the bible or how to pray. Muslims, Jews or athiests are free to practice their beliefs/non-beliefs without interference of the Government. I stand for that; I appauld it! After all, God gave us free-will to choose to believe or not to believe; so should our country.
However, taking out the biblical principle, I think allowing two men to legally marry each other is crossing a very fine line. It opens up a can of worms that unfortunately, I'm sure will be debated in our lifetime. A man wants to marry his dog, or his sister, or himself, or mulitple women/men. The list of grievances could go on and on. Even if you aren't a believer, surely you can see how distorted this debate could become.
Two men or two women are free to live together, love each other, raise a family, have civil wedding/unions (and in some states legal ones). No law is keeping them from doing that. How is America infringing on their rights? Perhaps our law will protect us from a lot of headaches in the end.
The only reason I brought up religion is because Mika was questioning why God would make someone gay just to suffer. I was explaining what the bible says about homosexuality. I never said that the bible was to dictate law. It doesn't mean I am judgmental, or unloving. Quite on the contrary, I have experienced quite a lot from both worlds (secular and Christian) and I speak from knowing and seeing what Christ can do in a person's life...my own included. That's the ulitmate love.
Hey Mika! I actually LOVE the title of this blog....Love Actually. Aren't there more things to worry about in our world...like wars and hatred? I think the least of our worries are whether or not two people should be allowed to love each other and committ to each other. It's a shame that an argument about love should distract from the REAL problems in our world. Like killing people in other countries, lack of medical care ( have you seen Sicko?), Buddhist Monks being slaughtered etc etc. It's just Love Actually, it's not that bad!
