Oh Happy Day

When I first met Tom, he was very liberal. I know this is hard to believe – but in our dating years, he was even further to the Left than I was.

Then came the Dark Years - a time when some sort of alien being controlled my husband's mind and body - turning him into a dreaded Conservative. Like most families, we try our best to hide the skeletons in our closet. For years Tyler and I lived in fear that the truth would come out – how would we explain to our friends that Tom actually supported George W. Bush? You have no idea the pain that comes from living in a bipartisan family.

But, not long ago, Tom made a startling announcement. It wasn’t exactly an apology – but it was good enough for me. It seemed he now realizes the error of his ways, going so far as to say that it would take several generations of Americans to recover from the economical, environmental and diplomatic damage that GW has done.

It gets even better! Tom is now giving his full support to Obama. What happened to bring about this sudden change of heart? Is it possible that Tom is having an affair with a Democrat? Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I’ve decided not to ask questions, and simply embrace and love the new Tom.

Free at last.....

Where you rejoice, I will mourn. I'm sorry I've lost a brother to a world full of lies and deceit, but I know in the end, the Sovereignty of God will bring the real truth. Yes, America will eventually destroy itself, but it won't have anything to do will George W. I fully believe his validation will come when the liberals least expect it... For the battle we all face is not a battle that can be seen and if America doesn't have a president that understands this, lies will eventually implode this great country.

Please do not take this the wrong way, but why do Canadians care about America's President? Since Canada is on this Earth, and is living a Western-Secular culture, one should agree that Canada has her own severe problems to deal with. It would be refreshing to see your blog focus on Canada, since this is where you call home, instead of your birthland. It seems a bit passive-aggressive and the Mika I love is so beautiful, giving and tender. Please do not take this fantasy away from me! :)

Yes, the world needs saving, but it will not come from ANY man (Democrat or Liberal). To think it will is perhaps the biggest lie one could tell themselves.

I'm sorry...I mistyped I meant to say (Democrat or Republican) in the last paragraph...oops!

Hi Mika. It's an interesting contrast - that desire to be a global thinker versus being focused on just one place. I love that your vision and sensibilities are so broad and I believe that's part of what makes one a Canadian - whether born here or not. It truly is important for us as global citizens to be aware of, and care about, what's going on beyond our borders. And given the impact of American activities on the world, it would hardly make sense for us not to pay special attention to what goes on to the south.

Re. Tom's conversion - you know what they say about conservatism - it is generally more dominant when one feels they have something to protect (children, home, investments, etc....). Maybe Tom's now feeling mellow enough to let go of that fear-based approach! :) Or perhaps it's a latent result of a cross-country, soul-searching road trip about a year ago!! ;)

Global awareness is one thing, blaming and ridiculing is another. Perhaps focusing on the true tyrants of the world, such as Castro, Kim Jong, Chavez, etc...would put things more in perspective.

I am a conservative because it is the only political system that, for the most part, supports my values. I am only trying to protect those values.

It's interesting that liberals claim to be so open-minded...unless, of course, one's values are considerbally contradictory to theirs. Let's get real...in the world of politics it's rarely open-mindedness that rules but a firm set of beliefs that make us sway either left or right. My point is, since Canadians do not even share the US's political system, why claim to be either? I do not claim any alliance to the Queen of England...why would I?

Mika's husband Tom says:

Okay, okay....now that the Queen is involved - this opens up a whole new can of worms!

This thread is getting very interesting to say the least!

Keep it up, ladies!

Mika, you know that our political, religious and general "life' views are pretty much on the same page. I'm sure you're aware I'm churning inside wanting to make a comment and how difficult it is for me not to. All I'm going to say is it's like reading Ann Coulter! And Tom, on behalf of the Queen, welcome back!

Whoo-ee! Mika you're stirring up the pot again!! First let me start with a couple of quotes.
Quote #1
" Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies: from these process debts and taxes...known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few. No nation could preserve it's freedom in the midst of continual warfare" James Madison, Political Observations , 1799
Quote #2
"And there is distrust in Washington. I am surprised , frankly, by the amount of distrust that exists in this town. And I'm sorry it's the case, and I'll work hard to try to elevate it." Bush in an interview on National Public Radio, January 29, 2008.

The United Nations was set up to be committed to preserving peace through international cooperation and collective security by the United States and it's allies.
For nearly 2 decades the UN has faced a financial difficulties and it has been forced to cut back on important programs in all areas. Many member states have not paid their full dues and have cut their donations to the UN's voluntary funds. As of Oct 31, 2006 member's arrears to the Regular Budget topped $661 million of which the United States alone owed $526 million ( 80% of the regular budget arrears)

US military spending
2006 $571.6 billion
2007 $626.1 billion
2008 $643.9 billion

As a Canadian and Global citizen I care.

Just one final thought - I believe that Mika's views as part of her own personal blog were challenged (and not the other way around).

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing enjoyed in both the US and Canada and individuals on the left as well as the right are entitled to their views, values and votes. When these are questioned, dismissed or invalidated (and in a personal fashion) this is an afront that deserves defending. There is nothing 'wrong' with having differing views, but often the right comes across in a self-righteous, angry, 'my way or the highway' way.

And to reiterate, as global citizens, it is our obligation to be aware of, and engaged with, what is taking place beyond our borders. To criticize George W. Bush and his war-mongering ways is not to say that other world leaders are beyond reproach - that really wasn't the point though...

In all sincerity, I think my point has been made. The last rant came straight from a left-wing propoganda website, no less. Why am I not surprised when Hollywood and the media, all of whom are extremely moral and ethical, run the country? When Britney Spears is an American icon...well, it's down-right depressing!

Hopefully, Hillary or Obama can figure out a way to pay off that UN debt just as soon as they pay for all the illegal alliens and Government-subsidized health care. However, I have a feeling they won't have to worry about that since Al Queda might take over North America...but Canada will save us, right? :)

Sincerely,

Passive-agressive Ann

I just have to say one thing. I have never read so many false things in my life. I can't even imagine how people think up such lies about a man. If people want to make up stuff surly they could do better than that. I am amazed at the hate that comes out. So sad. M
